ABOUT JEFF STROMGREN
Meet Jeff:
Jeff Stromgren is a longtime Maple Ridge resident, educator, community volunteer, and proud father of two.
With nearly three decades of experience in education and community development, Jeff is running for School Board Trustee to bring practical knowledge, thoughtful leadership, and a strong commitment to students and families.
Personal Life in Maple Ridge
Jeff and his wife, Renee, have lived in west Maple Ridge since 2009. Their children, Holden and Evelyn, have attended neighbourhood schools since kindergarten and are now in Grades 9 and 8.
As a proud father, Jeff enjoys seeing his children explore their own interests at local studios, dojos, sports fields, and community spaces. Whether it is a spring evening at Ridge Meadows Baseball, a Saturday morning at the Catalyst Volleyball courts, or a special performance at The ACT Arts Centre, these experiences have given Jeff the opportunity to connect with children and parents from across Maple Ridge.
A passionate mountain biker, Jeff serves as the Fraser Valley Athletic Association Mountain Bike Coordinator for students in Grades 9–12. In this role, he has hosted numerous events and championships at the Thornhill trails. He is also a key contributor to the annual BC Bike Race, a globally recognized event in the sport of mountain biking.
Over the years, Jeff has developed a strong connection to Maple Ridge. He values friendships with people from every part of the city, enjoys attending local events, and makes a point of choosing Maple Ridge businesses and service providers whenever possible.
Professional and Volunteer Experiences
Jeff brings 28 years of experience in education, both in the classroom and in community development roles.
He holds a Bachelor of Education from McGill University and a Master’s degree in Physical and Health Education from the University of Wollongong. For the past 28 years, he has worked with School District 43 Coquitlam as a teacher and district coordinator.
Through his work, Jeff has developed an in-depth understanding of specialized funding streams within the BC Ministry of Education and Child Care. He has helped develop funding-disbursement strategies and report on outcomes for programs including:
CommunityLINK
The Student and Family Affordability Fund
The Feeding Futures Fund
Jeff also has strong experience in grant writing and donation procurement.
For approximately 30 years, he has organized children’s conferences, coached teams, and worked in sports administration in both school and community settings.
Jeff is an ambassador for the Middle Years Development Instrument, developed by UBC’s Human Early Learning Partnership. This work has given him valuable experience with data collection, analysis, and the use of evidence to better understand the well-being of children and youth.
He has also gained extensive nonprofit governance experience through his service on the boards of:
Moresports Community Development Foundation
The Do What U Luv Foundation
Port Coquitlam Sports Alliance
Together, these professional and volunteer experiences have given Jeff a strong understanding of education, community development, funding, governance, youth programming, and collaborative leadership.
WHY SCHOOL TRUSTEE?
My experiences have shown me how important strong schools are to students, families, and the wider community.
I am running for School Board Trustee because I believe I can bring my experience, perspective, and commitment to the work of the Board.
I want to listen carefully, ask thoughtful questions, work constructively with others, and help make responsible decisions for the future of public education in Maple Ridge.
